中国菜 燕燕
EN-EN offers plenty of choice, from blanched squid with green Sichuan pepper sauce to Yi-fu noodles stir-fried with shrimp roe sauce. A pot of Chinese tea costs ¥600, and hot water refills are available.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Choosing a Chinese tea to enjoy alongside your meal is part of the appeal at EN-EN. The menu lists green, oolong, white, dark, flower and black teas, and all the Chinese teas shown are priced at ¥600 per pot. Read the descriptions to find a favourite: Tieguanyin has a clean, lingering finish; Biluochun offers sweetness and a fresh, youthful aroma; and one black tea is scented with lychee. Tea leaves and glass teapots are also available for purchase, and the restaurant says you can ask for more hot water. It is a welcome option for anyone who likes to take their time over tea and dinner.
Among the dishes, blanched squid with green Sichuan pepper sauce and Yi-fu noodles stir-fried with shrimp roe sauce were ordered by one diner during an evening visit. The menu describes the sauce as a cold dish with a distinct Sichuan flavour, and Yi-fu noodles as fine, flat noodles made with wheat flour and egg. On that visit, the diner and their companion also shared seafood-topped fried noodles and yurinchi fried chicken, enjoying four dishes between them. For a dinner of individually chosen plates, you could build a meal from a cold dish through to noodles or fried noodles.
For a selection of dim sum, choose from spring rolls, dumplings and shumai. EN-EN's special assorted spring rolls are sold by the piece at 4 for ¥800; pan-fried dumplings with lacy skirts come 7 for ¥850; and shumai made with Awaji onion come 3 for ¥600. The portions make it easy to match your order to the number of diners and how many dishes you want to try. At lunch, one diner chose a set meal with a choice of daily main; options on one day included tofu simmered in sauce with leafy greens and chicken stir-fried with vegetables. Another lunch guest ordered a fried rice set that reportedly came with salad and dessert. There are different ways to enjoy a meal here, whether over individual dishes and Chinese tea in the evening or with a convenient lunch set.
The restaurant is on Imadegawa-dori, west of Teramachi-dori, in Kamigyo Ward. Reservations are recommended for dinner.
